Off from the Races

This handsome young fellow is  a six year old thoroughbred that stayed with us for  the very snowy month of February.
He is  a former race horse ~
His  track name was Fly with Ravens,  barn name Monte..

Although Monte started his career racing at the track   ~ he much prefers the sights and relaxation of wooded trails . Over the past few years Monte  has been transitioning from race horse to trail horse.

February was a stormy snowy month  so Monte spent more time than usual in our largest comfy stall. He still enjoyed the great outdoors whenever possible.

Near the end of his stay we did have a few fairly nice days ~ nice meaning not in the midst of  a blizzards and grounds covered with huge amounts of snow.
( although those days were few indeed )

                                  While at the farm ~
                            Mr. Monte became quite enamored
                                   with little Miss Honey Bee
                                  ( well who doesn't really ) .
He even snuck in a nuzzle here and there with Miss Bee .
( forgive her Roller ...she still loves just  YOU )

Monte  left just this  weekend, to be
                         back with his owner

                                        Farewell Monte  ~
                                  a beautiful boy you are
and we wish you well in
                                 in your journeys ahead.

  6. He is very handsome. I had an exracehorse for a while - a mare named Eddie. 17.1 hands and she could jump the moon.

  19. I think Monte might be a bit heartbroken leaving such a lovely land and a beautiful gal, I think his stay with you will have made him a wonderful slower paced horse.

It is sad to think of the consequences of the racing industry on these horses, the old saying you can't teach a old dog new tricks.. that certainly wasn't true for racing greyhounds now was it? I think they realized the horse is more than a one trick pony < see what I did there? *lol*

    Your a wonderful person, hugs

  20. Hopefully he'll make his path from one to the other smoothly. Riding woodland trails sounds a far nicer life than racing tracks anyway!

  22. Monte was lucky to get to spend time with you and your babies....he probably doesn't want to leave. And you know I was thinking about his name....isn't that like all of us......we start out thinking we want to be grand and have excitement and have a title like Fly with Ravens...but then we realize that the true happiness is just being Monte. Haha...how's that for some deep thinking.......signed.......Lovely As Lillies......but really .....just....Lisa.....:)

Does he bite? What a gentle boy, and my dear friend, thank you for this uplift. I am now starting to feel the winter blues (something I never, ever get), but you know how this year has been for both of us with the snow.

And what a beautiful boy, is Monte. Oh I am so happy that he is going to a good home. So happy that someone is giving him this.

Thank you for leaving a comment in my blog. Now if we lived closer, betcha' I could come over and actually learn to pet a horse. I love them, but have never had experience with them, so I fear them. -sighhhh- I don't have any plans to ride.... But I would love to get to know one. :-)

    Gentle hugs,

  59. Oh my goodness, Monte is gorgeous. I just had a horse visitor this week. She meandered off from her farm down in the valley and ended up in our driveway. Thank goodness we saw her as well as some of our neighbors. She got fed, taken care of and then her people came to get her. Such lovely photos. Horses are such beautiful souls. Blessings, Bird
